Invite an external guest to Microsoft Entra ID

External collaboration may require a guest identity in Microsoft Entra ID. Inviting the guest creates a directory entry, but the invitation and the resources they can use are separate concerns.

What is a guest user?

A guest is typically an external person collaborating with your organisation. Guest access is governed by your Entra external collaboration settings, Conditional Access and individual app or group permissions.

Before sending an invitation

  • Verify the guest email address and the business sponsor.
  • Follow approved external-sharing policies.
  • Identify the exact resource or group to which access is required.

Invite and verify

  1. Open Microsoft Entra admin centre and navigate to users.
  2. Choose the external or guest invitation action.
  3. Enter the recipient details and any approved message.
  4. Send the invitation and wait for redemption where required.
  5. Assign only the intended access and review it periodically.

Where TenantPilot fits

TenantPilot provides Invite guest user and Remove guest user tasks. It does not replace external-collaboration policy or the approval of resource access.
